The Pirates of the Caribbean book tag

Hello bookish friends. It is Thursday! YES! One more day until the weekend. * Begins dancing* Today’s tag is inspired by The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales which is being released on May 26th. I don’t know if I will be seeing this one in theaters but just in case I have been trying to watch the first four movies in the series. So to pump me up I thought I’d do this tag created by Little Book Obsession. I have mixed feelings about the movies so lets see how this tag goes. 😛

ok

1. “Don’t do anything … stupid” :  Choose a character that always made stupid decisions

My number one complaint about Clary from The Mortal Instruments is that she makes the stupidest decisions!!! Like girl, what is your body thinking?!?! Oh wait.. YOU AREN’T!!   She does whatever she FEELS like doing without any thought of the consequences. See I was angry about being left behind so I just decided to portal to you. Really friend?!?!  Like I understand she is a teenager but by book three, and especially five, she should know better than to do some of the things she is doing. UGH. Okay, rant over.

2. ” Why is the rum gone” : A book series you cannot live without

Of course I’m going to say Harry Potter. Nothing has kept my attachment and love quite like this series. While I haven’t reread it in a long time it still holds the most special place in my heart.

3. ” It’s the honest ones you wanna watch out for” :  A book with a twist you didn’t see coming

I almost always see the twist coming. It’s just like part of who I am. Though it never lessens my opinion of the book. Thus, I’m going to go with more of a direction turn than a OMG what?!?! moment. I never expected Safi to make the decision she made at the end of Truthwitch. It just wasn’t something I foresaw. But I’m excited to see where the story is headed.

4. ” I’m Captain Jack Sparrow” : A character who is way too full of themselves

Since I can’t use The Mortal Instruments again (Cough Jace Cough) I’ll say Nikolai from Siege in Storm. I will say though that its an endearing quality in him. Like its just enough self assurance and  confidence that he charmed the pants off of me. Well not literally but you get the idea. He knows who he is and what he wants.

5. “But you have heard if me” :  A book everyone talks about even though its horrible

Horrible is just such a strong word. Especially since what I didn’t enjoy someone else might have. I will say that I’ve seen so many people in the book community gushing over Blood Rose Rebellion and Gilded Cage. I hated both of those books. Blood Rose Rebellion has forced physical affection and cousin kissing. Not to mention bad representation. And the writing in Gilded Cage just drove me nuts. But if you like them, more power to you.

6. “To do the right thing” : Choose a character that is evil for the sake of being evil

The more I think about it there aren’t that many villains who are evil to be evil. That just so two-dimensional. But for the questions sake I’ll nominate The Commandant from An Ember in the Ashes. She is cruel many times just for the sake of being cruel. She tortures people because she enjoys watching them suffer. She is pretty evil. And she acts evil because she enjoys being evil. It works.

7. ” I said no lies” : A book that was taking you one way and then does a 180 on you

The Forgetting. No joke I thought this book was a historical or maybe a fantasy. Nope it’s a full blow science-fiction dystopian. When the main character discovers the space ship with her friend I was freaking out because I didn’t know what was going on.

8. “I’m not sure I deserved that” : A book that slapped you in the face with feels, not once but twice

I’m going to cheat and give you a duology. Full Tilt and All In by Emma Scott. I was crying off and on throughout my entire reading of this duology. Both books were compelling emotional roller coasters.

9. “That was it” : Choose a couple that just miss every opportunity of getting together

Lola & Cricket from Lola and the Boy Next Door. Half of this book is about misunderstandings between them. I really wanted them to just clear the air and get together already. But then there would’ve been not story to tell. So *shrugs*

10. “That’s not good enough” : A book you thought was going to be great but let you down

I had really really high hopes for The Whole Thing Together by Ann Brashares. Her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series is a marker of my middle school years. But this book was just bad. It was full of bad representation, slut shaming, appalling body talk, and disgusting brother sister love. I just wasn’t down for it and was ready to throw it away by the time I finished reading it.

That is the Pirates of the Caribbean book tag. Comment down below and let me know of one book that let you down. I hope you guys are having an incredible Thursday! Keep booking it!

Recently I started watching these movies again in preparation for the new one coming out soon… they’re so good!!
One book that let me down was The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han. It seems like it would be the perfect romance to read in the summer, but I thought the main character was really annoying and the plot was much too focus on the love triangle.
    Great tag! 🙂
